Letter from PD:
The Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery (MIGS) fellowship at Emory University offers an in-depth curriculum dedicated to advanced endoscopic techniques and procedures. This comprehensive program provides diverse clinical, research, and teaching experiences focusing on minimally invasive surgical modalities for various benign gynecologic conditions. Clinical training is conducted at several sites throughout the Emory network, including, but not limited to, Emory St. Joseph’s Hospital (ESJH) and Emory University Hospital (EUH). Our program emphasizes proficiency in laparoscopy and hysteroscopy, robotic-assisted procedures, and advanced endometriosis surgery. With this surgical foundation, fellows gain the hands-on experience required to become experts in diagnosing and treating abnormal uterine bleeding, leiomyomas, endometriosis, chronic pelvic pain, infertility, uterine anomalies, and gender dysphoria. Senior fellows spearhead simulation sessions and surgical teaching for residents and more junior fellows. Each fellow benefits from direct clinical or translational research mentorship, culminating in a thesis project.
The program prepares fellows to:
- Practice independently as subspecialty consultant surgeons.
- Achieve mastery of advanced minimally invasive surgical techniques and the non-surgical management of complex benign gynecologic conditions.
- Thrive in academic settings through focused training in teaching and close mentorship in research.
- Enhance the quality of surgical care for women by integrating the latest innovations and technologies in MIGS.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to determine optimal surgical solutions for complex patients, with a keen focus on patient safety and outcomes.
Sincerely,
