Mission
To facilitate an intensive and longitudinal residency experience in point of care ultrasound. The resident will develop expertise in point of care ultrasound that is beyond ACGME requirements. Additionally, the pathway will prepare the resident for an ultrasound fellowship and/or ultrasound leadership positions in the graduate’s career.
Requirements
The ultrasound pathway will begin during the PGY2 year. Candidates will have demonstrated an interest in developing point of care ultrasound skills. The resident must receive support from the residency leadership and the resident advisor.

- Skills development
Perform a sufficient number of clinical scans demonstrating an advanced foundation in ultrasound image acquisition and interpretation as well as procedural utilization of ultrasound - Leadership/teaching development
The resident will teach at several point of care ultrasound courses geared towards medical students that take place annually. Additionally, the resident will teach interns at the bedside during their ultrasound rotation. The goal is to develop teaching skills for junior learners specific to ultrasound image acquisition and interpretation. - Scholarship
The resident will develop and participate in a scholarly project. Scholarly projects can be in the form of research, educational efforts or quality improvement initiatives. The resident will present at ultrasound journal club - Administration
The resident will be an active member of the ultrasound section. The resident will attend some ultrasound section meetings and other administrative meetings as they arise. The resident will be invited to all ultrasound section special events occurring throughout the year. The resident will participate in quality assurance initiatives and other administrative tasks as they arise.
