Conference opportunities
Didactics are a key component of the Emergency Medicine Residency Program. Each resident begins the program with certifications in:
- ACLS
- ATLS
- PALS
Faculty provides extra coverage in the Emergency Departments to free residents from clinical duties to attend conferences. Conferences are arranged around a modular curriculum with each module focusing on a specific topic. Each module incorporates:
- Core lectures
- Case conferences
- Text reviews
- Testing questions designed to maximize learning for board preparation.
Signature series include the annual difficult airway lab, cadaver labs, palliative care OSCE, mock oral board exams, and monthly simulation sessions.
Emory residents also have a wealth of independent, supervised learning opportunities and are required to complete at least an additional one hour per week in individual simulations, computer-based learning or specialty conferences.
The resident educational experience is also enhanced through various asynchronous learning activities.
Journal clubs
Our residency program offers a monthly journal club didactic methodology session which includes article reviews. These sessions are typically held at a faculty home in the evenings. In addition to the Emergency Medicine conference schedule, Emergency Medicine faculty and residents teach a lecture series geared towards rotating interns and medical students.
The lectures are held on Thursdays in the Simulation Center at Emory or on the Grady campus. The other clinical services of Grady Memorial Hospital provide a large number of formal conferences on a weekly basis.
Similarly, the other hospitals of the residency program provide numerous opportunities to attend conferences on diverse subjects pertinent to Emergency Medicine residents.
