Emory Emergency Medicine PGY3 Chief Resident Dr. Vidhya Balasubramanian chose Emory for her EM residency for “Grady, Grady, Grady. Training at Emory Emergency Medicine means caring for one of the most vulnerable patient populations in the country at a true safety-net hospital. You practice emergency medicine in its purest form—high acuity, limited resources, and enormous need—and you do it alongside an interdisciplinary team of nurses, pharmacists, techs, social workers, and attendings who are deeply committed to the same mission. It’s intense, humbling, and sometimes exhausting, but it’s also incredibly meaningful and the reason many of us chose emergency medicine in the first place."
Emory Emergency Medicine PGY2 Resident Dr. Josue Rodriguez said,"I chose Emory's Emergency Medicine program because it perfectly balances patient-centered care at Grady Memorial Hospital, one of the busiest county hospitals in the US, with the academic excellence of Emory University. Having completed my undergraduate and medical training in Atlanta, I feel deeply connected to the mission of impacting a region that urgently needs a diverse workforce of doctors. The Department's size and long history offer a wealth of opportunities and mentors to help develop one's career path. This unique combination allows Emory to train EM doctors who can effectively address the urgent needs of vulnerable populations while also innovating and advancing the field of emergency medicine. Plus, the vibes in the department are just amazing!
I have a strong interest in Latino healthcare, focusing on improving access and outcomes for underserved communities, especially given the unique challenges Latinos/Hispanics face. I’m also drawn to social emergency medicine, which addresses the broader social factors impacting health. Academic medicine appeals to me for its opportunities in teaching and mentorship. Additionally, I’m intrigued by the administrative and medico-legal aspects of the field. While I'm currently undecided about post-residency fellowships, I’m excited to explore these interests further during my residency."
Emory Emergency Medicine PGY1 Resident Dr. Kailey Jacobson said, "I chose Emory EM after rotating here last year. I fell in love with the people, program, and patient population. I knew I wanted a truly county program that would push me to be an incredible ER Doc and there is no doubt I will get that here. Grady is incredibly unique. It is as challenging as it is rewarding and you are surrounded by individuals that care as much as you do about the community we serve."
