Why Emory EM?
I chose Emory's Emergency Medicine program because it perfectly balances patient-centered care at Grady Memorial Hospital, one of the busiest county hospitals in the US, with the academic excellence of Emory University. Having completed my undergraduate and medical training in Atlanta, I feel deeply connected to the mission of impacting a region that urgently needs a diverse workforce of doctors. The Department's size and long history offer a wealth of opportunities and mentors to help develop one's career path. This unique combination allows Emory to train EM doctors who can effectively address the urgent needs of vulnerable populations while also innovating and advancing the field of emergency medicine. Plus, the vibes in the department are just amazing!
Interest within EM?
I have a strong interest in Latino healthcare, focusing on improving access and outcomes for underserved communities, especially given the unique challenges Latinos/Hispanics face. I’m also drawn to social emergency medicine, which addresses the broader social factors impacting health. Academic medicine appeals to me for its opportunities in teaching and mentorship. Additionally, I’m intrigued by the administrative and medico-legal aspects of the field. While I'm currently undecided about post-residency fellowships, I’m excited to explore these interests further during my residency.
