Why Emory EM?
I chose Emory EM because I want to train at a county hospital that has a high ED volume/ acuity and wide scope of pathology, is committed to a diverse and underserved population, and is also affiliated with an academic institution. More importantly, I needed a residency program that prioritized exposure and autonomy during training, but not at the expense of one's wellness. Emory offered all of these things while also living up to its role as a leader in Emergency Medicine and GME in general. During my interview, I not only resonated with the values and culture of Emory/Grady, but I felt an enormous amount of support and a true sense of family from the top down. I left the interview with this warm, fuzzy feeling that I belonged at Emory - a feeling that I couldn't shake (and didn't have to after Match Day!!). It doesn't hurt that Emory is also located in Atlanta - a vibrant, WARM city with so much to do both in and just outside of town. From unlimited Asian food (Buford Highway), to nature hikes, fun attractions, or beautiful parks, I knew that I would have no trouble enjoying my life outside the ED.
Interest within EM?
Primarily ultrasound and medical education, but recently global EM has piqued my interest
5- year plan
I am considering completing an ultrasound fellowship, and I hope to be hired as faculty of an EM residency program and work and teach at a county hospital affiliated with an academic center
What would you be doing if you weren’t in Emergency Medicine?
I would likely return to teaching. I used to teach Chemistry and I greatly enjoyed influencing the minds of the next generation
Fun Fact
- I have two pet birds, a peach-faced lovebird named Piccolo (from DBZ), and a green-cheek conure named Bird (he chose his own name...)
