Overview
Dr. Joshua Guttman was born and raised in Montreal, Canada. He earned his medical degree at the McGill University Faculty of Medicine and continued on to complete a residency in Emergency Medicine at McGill University, where he was chief resident. He then completed a fellowship in emergency medicine ultrasound at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, in New York, NY.
Dr. Guttman has been at Emory since 2018. He currently is an associate professor of Emergency Medicine at the Emory University School of Medicine. He proudly works clinically as an attending physician at Grady Memorial Hospital. Dr. Guttman served as the Emergency Medicine Ultrasound Fellowship Director from 2018-2023. Dr. Guttman has given over 80 lectures and workshops nationally and internationally on point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) and Emergency Medicine topics. Dr. Guttman serves nationally as an inaugural council member for the Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship Accreditation Council (EUFAC). He is also the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) Ultrasound Section billing and reimbursement subcommittee chair, as well as the chair-elect for the American Academy of Emergency Medicine (AAEM) Emergency Ultrasound section. He is also the associate POCUS course director for Foundations of Emergency Medicine. Dr. Guttman is an author on multiple book chapters and review articles on both ultrasound and other Emergency Medicine topics, including in Rosen's Emergency Medicine, which is considered the reference textbook for Emergency Medicine. Dr. Guttman is actively involved in ultrasound education at Emory University, including founding the ultrasound pathway for the emergency medicine residency, faculty advisor for the medical student POCUS interest group and is active multispecialty faculty development in POCUS, including running a local POCUS course for Emory School of Medicine faculty. Dr. Guttman is a proud father of 3 young children and serves on the Board of Trustees for their school.
