Emory Professional Leadership Enrichment and Development Program (EM-ProLEAD)

2024 EM-ProLEAD cohort image

Course Overview

The Emory Professional Leadership Enrichment and Development Program (EM-ProLEAD) is designed to develop and enrich leadership skills and enhance business knowledge for SOM faculty and advance practice providers.

Program Description

The Emory Professional Leadership Enrichment and Development Program (EM-ProLEAD) focuses on enriching leadership skills, enhancing business knowledge, and promoting collaborative efforts across Emory health professionals with an emphasis on diversity and inclusion. EM-ProLEAD is directed by Harold (Hal) Simon (pediatrics) and Holly Gooding (pediatrics) and includes speakers from Emory University, Goizueta Business School, Emory School of Medicine, and other leaders outside of Emory. Participants will apply their learning to a project related to their leadership role throughout the course.

Topics

The program will focus on developing toolsets, mindsets, and skillsets for leadership and feature sessions on: leadership development, conflict management, negotiation, finance, accounting, marketing, decision making, and operations.

Time Commitment and Structure

EM-ProLEAD encompasses nine (9) in-person, half-day sessions held approximately once a month on a Friday afternoon. Candidates accepted into the program are expected to attend all sessions and to work on their project throughout their time in the cohort. Participation in the course may also require additional time to complete any course-related work, such as a self-assessment and/or pre-work. Tentative dates for the 2025 course:

  • January 24
  • February 28
  • March 28
  • April 25
  • August 22
  • September 26
  • October 24
  • November 21
  • December 12

Eligibility

  • Current member of Emory School of Medicine and/or Emory Healthcare
  • In a mid to senior leadership position, therefore, we look for those with a minimum of 4 years post-training and 1 year of experience at Emory.
  • Must be supported by their Department Chair, Division Director or Executive Administrator with dedicated time allocated to this program.

How to Apply

The application is now closed. Please check back in Fall 2025 for the next application cycle.

All interested and eligible candidates must submit an online application form and CV and be supported by a leader. Candidates are strongly encouraged to discuss their proposed project and interest in the course with their leaders before completing the application.

The application packet consists of two parts:

1. Candidate Application
  • Candidate information
  • Candidate Project
  • Candidate statement of interest
  • Candidate curriculum vita
  • Supporting leader information

Once the above steps are completed, the leader will receive an automated request to complete their portion of the application.

2. Leader Support Form

  • Commitment to providing time away from clinical duties
  • Statement of support, including how the proposed project will benefit the unit, division, or department.

Selection Process

Once the application window has closed, the EM-ProLEAD selection committee will review and select the next cohort. Candidates will be notified by mid-November. In alignment with our shared commitment to an inclusive and constructive culture, great attention will be given to selecting a diverse cohort.
