Dr. Lowery-North Mentorship Fund
Dr. Douglas Lowery-North was a charismatic teacher, mentor, leader, caring physician, father, husband, and friend. He impacted many careers through his devotion to inspiring medical providers at Emory and beyond. His emphasis on individual, professional and personal goals provided his protegees the understanding to balance all aspects of life.
In 1996, Doug, as we fondly called him, was the first physician Medical Director of the Emory University Hospital Emergency Department (ED) and transformed it from a treatment room to a full standing ED. In this role, he developed a model of care centered on the patient and family. His insightful understanding and critical decision-making skills steered the department and its faculty and staff to success.
In his memory, the Dr. Douglas Lowery-North Mentor of the Year Award recognizes an Emory Department of Emergency Medicine member who has demonstrated a commitment to fostering the intellectual, scholarly, and professional growth of mentees. The recipient contributes to the EM mission and is an outstanding role model consistently going above and beyond in helping others to develop their Emergency Medicine careers. Candidates are evaluated on the extent, quality, and effectiveness in their mentoring contributions. This award contributes to the Department’s continued effort to cultivate a culture of mentoring.

The Health DesignED in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Emory is an acute care design and innovation center working to make acute care seamless and bring equity to wellbeing.
MUSE
The Mentoring for Under-Represented Students in EM is a longitudinal mentoring program for rising clinical year medical students from under-represented groups who have an interest in pursuing an EM career. Students are reiumbursed up to $2000 for their living expenses during the month of their visiting rotation/clerkship.
Research and Development Fund
Innovation and discovery are an integral part of the Department of EM. The team works to remove barriers to research and your gift will help increase faculty, advanced practice providers, and learners engagement in research. The research team offers writing days, helps with study design and IRB, proposal development, statistics, and a scholars program. With a new Emory Neurotrauma Translational Research Center (ENTiRE) accelerating the discovery and translation of groundbreaking therapies for neurotrauma and a Translational Neurotrauma Research Laboratory, the Department of EM is on the forefront of neurotrauma research.

Wellness, Teaching and Education Fund
This fund will support our faculty, advanced practice providers and learners as we continue to grow and thrive. Our residents rotate through state-of-the-art facilities at Emory University Hospital Clifton, Emory University Hospital Midtown, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston, Children's Hospital of Atlanta at Scottish Rite, and Grady Memorial Hospital.
We have outstanding residents who chose to train at Emory/Grady, where they graduate with a strong foundation in education, research, service/advocacy, and wellness/resiliency. Recently, we expanded the resident's international
Our goal is to be able to send every resident to a major conference every year. These conferences include the Georgia College of Emergency Physicians, Society for Academic Emergency Medicine, the American College of Emergency Physicians, and the American Academy of Emergency Medicine.
