The Critical Care Section within the Department of Emergency Medicine was established in 2023 not only to advance the care of critically ill patients in the emergency department (ED) and intensive care unit (ICU) through world class clinical care, innovative research, and education of the next generation of physicians, but also to codify, support, and promote the interests of emergency medicine/critical care medicine (EM/CCM) faculty at Emory University.
The section consists of dual boarded Emergency Medicine Intensivists who attend in the Emergency Department at Grady Memorial Hospital as well as in the
Medical, Surgical, Trauma, Cardiothoracic, Neurocritical, and mixed ICUs at Grady Memorial and Emory University Hospitals. Faculty have local, regional, and national leadership roles and collaborative ventures in medical education, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), critical care ultrasound, hospital administration, informatics, and clinical trial research.
Mission
To foster a dynamic and supportive environment where faculty specializing in Emergency Medicine and Critical Care thrive while delivering exceptional care, providing unmatched education to a diverse group of trainees, and advancing science through cutting-edge research.
Vision
Cultivate a cohesive community of EM/CCM faculty where each individual finds success and fulfillment by embracing their unique expertise and contributions. We envision a future where our collective efforts have led to improved outcomes for critically ill patients through education, research, and innovations in care delivery.
