Macy Faculty Scholars Program

Brochure

The Macy Faculty Scholars Program is designed to identify and nurture the careers of promising educators and future leaders in medicine and nursing. Macy Faculty Scholars receive up to $100,000 of salary support over two years to implement an educational scholarly project in their home institutions. They also participate in a program of career development activities and build meaningful connections with a national network of mentors and peers—all with the goal of preparing them for leadership roles. Visit the website and read the program brochure to learn more.

The School of Medicine is seeking nominations for the 2024 Macy Faculty Scholars Program. One nominee will be selected to represent the school.

Eligibility:

The Macy Faculty Scholars Program is a career development award. The strongest candidates are those for whom the program will have the maximum impact at this point in their career and who also have the greatest possibility for future impact at their home institutions and beyond. To be eligible, candidates should:

  1. Be a faculty member in a United States accredited nursing school, allopathic medical school, or osteopathic medical school. Candidates should have approximately three to eight years of full-time faculty experience at the time of application.
  2. Have a faculty mentor who will advise the candidate on the candidate’s educational project and career development.
  3. Be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States or its territories.
  4. Have an educational scholarship project with appropriate institutional support.

Educational Project:

All applications must include a proposed educational project. Projects can explore various innovations in health professions education. The Foundation is particularly interested in clinical care projects focused on:

  • Advancing equity, diversity and belonging.
  • Enhancing collaboration among health professionals, educators and learners.
  • Preparing future health professionals to navigate and address ethical dilemmas that arise when the principles of the health professions are in conflict with barriers imposed by the health delivery system.

Application Information:

All interested candidates must provide the following:

  1. Candidate statement outlining both career objectives and personal goals for the program (2 pages max)
  2. Detailed description of the proposed educational project.  (1 page max)
  3. Letter from your chair indicating their commitment to protecting your time and describing your role in the department.
  4. Letter or email of support from your mentor indicating their commitment to advise your project and career development.
  5. CV (we strongly prefer CVs in the official SOM template)

All required materials must be submitted to SOMfde@emory.edu by July 17, 2023. The selection will be made, and the nominee notified by early August.

The selected nominee and their mentor will be responsible for completing and submitting all required application materials to the Macy Faculty Scholars Program by the September 15, 2023 deadline.
