The Transitional Year Program is an ACGME-accredited one-year program. The program is designed to provide a well-balanced clinical base year for a diverse group of trainees who match into advanced residency programs at Emory and elsewhere.
Welcome from the Program Director
Welcome to the Transitional Year (TY) Program at Emory. We are an ACGME-accredited program with 29 approved positions. We are happy that you are considering our program for your transitional year!
The TY residents work hand-in-hand with Emory's J. Willis Hurst Internal Medicine Residency Program categorical interns in a multi-hospital system. Throughout the year, TY residents accumulate a wealth of experience in a variety of clinical settings. Depending on future advanced specialty, the options for electives are abundant and unparalleled. TY residents also consistently engage in presentations and scholarship supported by our program and their advanced programs.
Residents trained at Emory know how social structure affects the health of our patients. We train compassionate and dedicated physicians, and I am very proud of this mission. We have a focus on wellness, and provide active support and mentorship to all residents. Our program has a sense of community and an environment for our residents to thrive. Our residents find their transitional year experience to be a foundation for their clinical work for the rest of their careers.
