Resident Benefits
The lifelong friendships and support networks built during our three-year program are an enduring hallmark of Emory's Internal Medicine Residency Program. The camaraderie among our colleagues extends far beyond our residency training, and the size of our program ensures that there is always someone who shares your interests.
Resident Social Committee
Our residency program supports resident social life through the resident-run Social and Wellness Committee, #HurstLife, which organizes small events (Hurst Happy Hours, group hikes, karaoke, cooking demos, river tubing, etc.) and residency-wide seasonal events, including our annual field day, holiday ball, spring picnic, and Chief's Roast and Toast.
Resident Wellness
Our resident-led wellness committee is committed to fostering a culture that allows our residents to maintain their well-being. The knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to maintain resilience and experience joy during training is an essential foundation for future success in the practice of internal medicine.
The wellness community achieves its mission by:
- Fostering a sense of community with activities in and out of the training environment
- Participation in a curriculum that focuses on skills that enhance resilience and maintains wellness
- Providing dedicated time to engage in activities that promote well-being, personal health (physical, mental, and emotional) and overall wellness.
- Recognition and celebration of citizenship and achievements in scholarship, teaching, and patient care.
- Supporting and encouraging the creation of individualized wellness care plans
- Each resident is awarded eight half days of "flex" time that they may apply on any non-primary service rotation as needed for personal medical appointments, car maintenance, veterinary appointments, and wellness.
