Why Emory EM?
I came into residency desiring an academic, 3-year program with a stellar reputation and plenty of scholarship opportunities. Upon interviewing, Emory stood out prominently as a program that possessed the characteristics I was looking for in a program, a supportive leadership team, extremely friendly residents, and a clear mission statement that everyone in the institution follows. Of all the programs, this was one of the few that I had no doubts as to the quality and value of the education.
Interest within EM?
I have a degree in medical education that I earned alongside my MD, so I am highly interested in the intersections of med ed throughout the spectrum of medical training. Specific interests include substance abuse education, patient perceptions and media portrayal of medicine, factors leading to imposter syndrome, and mentorship for students interested in emergency medicine.
5-year plan
I am hoping to develop my educational portfolio throughout residency and would want to find an attending position that allows me to interact with medical students and residents on many levels. I would like to find a position that allows me to develop curricula and potentially work in program leadership for residency.
What would you be doing if you weren’t in Emergency Medicine?
If I wasn't in EM (or medicine in general) I would be an educator or attempt a career at writing science fiction novels.
Fun Fact
I have published several pieces of poetry
