Colleen Kelley, MD, MPH, will serve as Emory School of Medicine’s first Associate Dean for Research for Emory at Grady, effective Nov. 1. Kelley is Associate Professor of Medicine in the Department of Medicine’s Division of Infectious Diseases with a secondary appointment as Associate Professor of Epidemiology in the Rollins School of Public Health. She serves as co-principal investigator and co-director for prevention sciences of the Emory Center for AIDS Research and program director at the Emory University Training Program in HIV Translational Research to End the Epidemic.
In collaboration with the executive associate deans for research, Emory at Grady Dean’s office and the Emory clinical service chiefs, Kelley will provide leadership and serve as the point person for research partnerships between Emory School of Medicine, Grady Health System, Morehouse School of Medicine and other stakeholders. She will also lead strategic planning and implementation to enhance research-related operations and facilities on the Grady campus.
"This role is critical as we execute on the research strategic plan at Grady,” said Carlos del Rio, executive associate dean for Emory at Grady. “Dr. Kelley’s multi-disciplinary background, along with her leadership in both research and clinical care at Grady, make her exceptionally well-qualified to lead this effort.”
Dr. Kelley’s clinical and research leadership in HIV medicine was nationally recognized last week as the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) announced her election to serve as vice chair of the HIV Medicine Association (HIVMA).
“As we continue our journey to eminence, building greater infrastructure and capacity for research at Grady has been a key priority, particularly in the areas of health disparities and improving care and outcomes for underserved populations,” said Vikas Sukhatme, dean of Emory School of Medicine. “We look forward to Dr. Kelley’s contributions and to our enhanced ability to improve and change lives through research.”
