Description
The Distinguished Teacher Award recognizes a faculty member of the Emory University Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences who has served as an outstanding educator to individuals within and outside the department.
Each year we will give up to two awards:
- Distinguished Institutional and Regional Teacher Award
- Distinguished National/International Teacher Award
Eligibility
Part-time or full-time faculty at any rank within the Emory University Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences are eligible for the Distinguished Teacher Award. Faculty members who have received this award within the previous five years are ineligible.
Nominations
Any individual (i.e., within or outside the department and Emory University) familiar with the faculty member’s teaching activities may submit a nomination. The faculty member’s activities may involve bedside, laboratory, didactic or classroom teaching; training intra- or inter-professional colleagues; supervision; and/or curriculum development; mentorship is not the primary focus of this award. The teaching activities may be directed to one or more of the following audiences: learners (e.g., students, residents, fellows) and peers (e.g., CME, CE, post-training courses) across disciplines, A concise, < 2000-word narrative describing the attributes that distinguish the nominee as a distinguished teacher should accompany the nomination. Additional letters (one page maximum per letter) from other individuals familiar with the faculty member’s teaching activities are encouraged. Do not provide more than five letters.
Submissions
Send requests for further information and electronic submissions to Nadine J. Kaslow, PhD, ABPP. Submissions should include the nominating letter, name and contact information of the faculty member being nominated (Word or PDF) and additional letters of support from other learners or colleagues, if applicable. We will accept nominations through midnight EDT July 1, 2026.
Decisions
The departmental award review committee will select the award recipient via an email vote. The Chair of the Department will serve as an ex-officio member of the committee and will have input without a vote. Members of the committee will recuse themselves if they are nominated for a particular award. We will notify award winners by July 31, 2026.
