Sept. 27: Marcella Nunez-Smith, MD, MHS
Dr. Marcella Nunez-Smith is a nationally-recognized leader in health equity research. She is the C.N.H Long Professor of Medicine, Public Health, and Management at Yale School of Medicine, where she serves as the Associate Dean for Health Equity Research and Founding Director of the Equity Research and Innovation Center (ERIC) in the Office for Health Equity Research.
Dr. Nunez-Smith also served as Senior Advisor to the White House COVID-19 Response Team, Chair of the Presidential COVID-19 Health Equity Task Force at the Department of Health and Human Services, and has held key roles in various advisory groups related to the pandemic.
Excellence to Eminence in Preventive, Primary, and Palliative Care Lecture Series
The Excellence to Eminence Lecture Series is supported by the Primary Care Consortium and the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine:
- To support knowledge-sharing across SOM divisions and departments that are involved in preventive, primary, palliative care, and healthcare operations and quality
- To facilitate broad conversations in the Emory WHSC community around the future and equity and diversity in clinical medicine, research, and education
- To support Emory’s educational and advocacy activities related to primary care
- To bridge EUV and EHC practice, scholarship, and education activities

Rethinking our approach to health after a pandemic: Lessons learned from COVID-19 - Sandro Galea, MD, MPH, DrPH
Dr. Sandro Galea, a physician, epidemiologist, and author, is dean and Robert A. Knox Professor at Boston University School of Public Health.
He previously held academic and leadership positions at Columbia University, the University of Michigan, and the New York Academy of Medicine. He has published extensively in the peer-reviewed literature and is a regular contributor to a range of public media, about the social causes of health, mental health, and the consequences of trauma.
Dr. Galea has been listed as one of the most widely cited scholars in the social sciences. He is past chair of the board of the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health and past president of the Society for Epidemiologic Research and of the Interdisciplinary Association for Population Health Science. He is an elected member of the National Academy of Medicine.
Galea has received several lifetime achievement awards. Galea holds a medical degree from the University of Toronto, graduate degrees from Harvard University and Columbia University, and an honorary doctorate from the University of Glasgow.
