Overview
Our faculty gastroesophageal surgery specialists diagnose and treat conditions that affect the esophagus and stomach. In order to continue offering the best solutions for patients' digestive problems, our faculty surgeons are also heavily involved in evaluating and testing new treatments for reflux disease and esophageal problems.
Emory has been a leading gastroesophagel treatment center ever since Dr. Edward Lin, chief of the Division of General and GI Surgery, performed the first endoscopic plication for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) in the nation at Emory University Hospital Midtown in 2004. Additionally, Emory general surgeons have compiled one of the largest foregut laparoscopic procedure and patient outcomes databases in the world, evaluated and developed endoluminal techniques for performing procedures through the GI tract by using flexible endoscopy, and refined single incision laparoscopic surgery for gall bladder procedures.
