We Stand Against Racism and Brutality
On Behalf of the Council for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Dr. Guido Silvestri, and Dr. Stewart Neill
In the midst of a pandemic that has already claimed many thousands of lives here in the United States and around the globe, we now grieve further recent events across the US that place an even greater spotlight on the terrible toll that systemic racism, police brutality, and longstanding inequity have taken and continue to take on our Black communities.
We in Emory Pathology echo the words of the leadership of our School of Medicine: we wholly condemn racist actions and ideologies and strongly support the rights of free speech and peaceful protest. We highly value diversity and will continue to work to see its benefits most fully realized. As a part of this work, we stand together with our colleagues across the University in support of one another and against racism and its horrendous results.
We welcome the input of all of our colleagues regarding how best to further these ideals. Should you have thoughts to share, please do contact a member of our Departmental leadership or our Council on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. We are devoted to the improvement of our department, school, and larger society, and we invite everyone’s participation in these endeavors.
