The Emory Research Group in Otolaryngology (ERGO) is proud to offer summer clerkships for medical students who are members of underrepresented minority groups that are interested in an immersive experience in otolaryngology research and clinical care as a potential gateway to pursuing a career in otolaryngology.

Overview

This clerkship in the Emory Department of Otolaryngology is a structured experience involving daily one-on-one interactions with a defined faculty mentor. The successful applicant will participate in weekly clinical activities while completing their particular research project, and will be expected to present their work both locally and nationally while publishing in peer-reviewed journals.

Interested students are encouraged to identify potential faculty mentors prior to submitting their application. Emory Otolaryngology has active studies in all aspects of otolaryngology, with projects ranging from laboratory investigations to translational and clinical outcomes studies. Review ERGO's active grants to identify faculty with projects of interest.

Once applicants are accepted, faculty mentors will oversee their clinical and research progress, and financial assistance will be provided (i.e., credentialing waiver and a variable stipend towards travel and/or housing).

Clerkships are available throughout the year, though most applications are for the summer months. Applications and transcripts must be submitted three-to-six months prior to the desired start date. While this clerkship is available to all medical students attending LCME-approved U.S. and Canadian medical schools, financial assistance is only available to those that meet the definition of underrepresented minority groups as described by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC).

Application

Please submit the following information to Dr. Joshua Levy three-to-six months prior to the desired clerkship. A letter of recommendation on the applicant's behalf will also be accepted.
