As we reflect on the past year, I am filled with pride and gratitude for the incredible work accomplished by our Faculty Development Office. In a time of rapid change and growing demands in academic medicine, our commitment to supporting faculty at every stage of their careers has never been stronger. This year, we focused on advancing professional growth and creating opportunities for meaningful engagement across our department. These efforts are not just programs—they represent our shared vision for a thriving, collaborative academic community.
Year in Review Highlights
Faculty Development Initiatives
- Appointments and Promotion & Tenure Packets: This year marked a significant milestone in recognizing faculty achievements, with 62 Appointment, Promotion & Tenure packets meticulously reviewed. Each packet represented a journey of academic and professional excellence, carefully evaluated to ensure that our faculty receive the recognition they deserve.
- Clinical Distinctions Program: 66 Clinical Distinctions packet submissions showcased the extraordinary clinical contributions of our faculty. Each submission reflects the expertise and unwavering dedication that define our department’s commitment to excellence in patient care.
- Performance and Professional Development: For another consecutive year, our department proudly reached an outstanding 95% completion rate for the Career Conference Performance Review (CCPR). This consistent success underscores the unwavering dedication of every division to fostering continuous professional growth and faculty excellence.
- Early Career Mentoring Matching Program: With the support of the DOM Mentoring Committee, the Faculty Development Council, and dedicated volunteer peer mentors, our office successfully supported the second year of the Early Career Faculty Mentoring Matching Program—now called BRIDGE (Building Relationships and Inspiring Development for Growth and Excellence). BRIDGE pairs early career faculty with experienced mentors to foster professional growth and development. We are excited to share that 33 new faculty members submitted mentoring needs surveys for the 2025 cohort. Through this initiative, we aim to build meaningful connections, provide valuable guidance, and enrich the academic experience for our early career faculty.
- Coffee with Carlos: During the first half of 2025, the Faculty Development Office hosted a series of “Coffee with the Chair” gatherings—small, informal meetings designed to foster open dialogue and strengthen connections. Held onsite at various Emory locations, these sessions provided faculty with a unique opportunity to share ideas, discuss important departmental topics, and engage directly with the Chair in a collaborative setting. The conversations sparked valuable insights and reinforced our commitment to transparency and faculty engagement.
Targeted Development Programs
Biennial Mid-Career Workshop: Held over two half-days in early 2025, the well-attended Mid-Career Workshop offered mid-career faculty a focused opportunity to strengthen their professional development and navigate career transitions. Covering topics such as leadership, career planning, and educational skills, the workshop delivered practical tools and valuable insights to support continued growth and success.
CV Review Sessions: Held twice a year, our CV review sessions provided 43 faculty members with personalized feedback and actionable strategies to enhance their professional profiles. These sessions offered expert guidance on effectively showcasing achievements and positioning for career advancement.
Faculty Education, Enrichment, and Development (FEED) Conference: Our Faculty Education, Enrichment, and Development (FEED) conference—a half-day virtual event, was attended by over 70 faculty members! The 2025 conference explored the transformative impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on medicine, encompassing clinical practice, teaching, and research. The conference featured a series of engaging general sessions and breakout discussions, highlighting the latest advancements and challenges in the field.
Celebration of Excellence
Honors and Awards Program: The annual Kathy Griendling Honors & Awards Ceremony celebrated faculty members’ outstanding contributions in research, teaching, service, and clinical care. This in-person and virtual event, attended by over 300 people, recognized individuals who have significantly impacted our department and the broader medical community. The 2025 program celebrated the following: 104 Faculty Nominations, 50 Staff Nominations, 53 Newly Promoted Senior Faculty, and 61 Clinical Distinction Recipients.
