The Department of Medicine develops its own set of promotion timelines (based on the School of Medicine’s) due to the volume of cases we manage as well as our internal review process.

The Promotion Quick Guides provide a concise overview of the official guidelines, making it easier to find the information you need. However, it is recommended that you refer to the official guidelines to ensure accurate understanding.

Promotion Packet Process
The Senior Promotion Process involves multiple stages of review at the DOM, SOM, and University (for tenure packets only) levels. These reviews ensure that faculty promotions are thoroughly evaluated and meet the requisite promotion guidelines.

Career Development PATHS
The Professional Advancement Tracks for Health Sciences (PATHS) were created as a guide for early and midcareer faculty as they move through their careers. These are only guidelines -not requirements-and they provide a centralized resource from which to choose activities for plotting your path toward promotion. The pathways are divided by career year(s) into best practices and academic mission areas for clinical educators/service, clinical investigators, and research scientists.
CV Reviews:
Each year, the DOM hosts these sessions in which faculty register for a 20-minute slot with a Promotions and Tenure Committee member to review their CV and discuss if they are on track for promotion.

These sessions are hosted twice a year. The next CV Review Session is scheduled for Wednesday, August 14, 2024.

Registration is announced via email. The SOM hosts similar workshops called "Promotion Readiness Sessions" each year as well also announced via email each year.
