Gregory Robertson MD
Overview
Dr. Greg Robertson is chief of the Emory Heart and Vascular Clinic at Johns Creek. At the Emory Johns Creek Hospital he is chief of cardiology and the medical director of the cardiac catheterization laboratory and interventional program. He is board certified in Vascular Medicine, Endovascular Medicine, Interventional Cardiology and Cardiovascular Medicine. He is an associate professor of medicine at Emory University.
Dr. Robertsons most recent research has focused on the development of new technologies to treat blocked leg arteries, helping save patients legs and enable people to keep walking. While in the San Francisco Bay Area for 16 years he practiced with the well-known medical device inventor Dr. John Simpson, whose development teams invented the atherectomy procedure and the first percutaneous arterial closure device. Atherectomy is the procedure which allows the physician to remove plaque in blocked arteries without major surgery. His newest project is with Dr. Simpsons invention of the Avinger Ocelot and Pantheris devices which open blocked arteries using optical coherence imaging (OCT). Before joining Emory, he spent 6 months training with Professor Horst Sievert in Germany in structural heart and advanced endovascular minimally invasive procedures.
Dr. Robertsons clinical expertise has focused on preventative care and using minimally-invasive vascular and cardiac treatment. His development of vascular programs at the new Emory Johns Creek Hospital include carotid artery stenting, percutaneous repair of abdominal aortic aneurysms, limb preservation and opening chronic totally occluded (CTO) arteries. At his Emory hospital he has also developed their new diagnostic and therapeutic PCI program for emergency STEMI and elective PCI and the PFO/ASD closure programs. At Emory University Hospital Midtown he is an expert in hybrid complex CTO procedures.

- Assistant Professor of Medicine, Emory Heart and Vascular Clinic
Education
Degrees
- MD from University of Alabama at Birmingham
- BS from University of Alabama
Research
Focus
- a. My research has focused on device development through start-up companies in the areas including catheter- based plaque excision, suture- based closure, recanalization of chronic total occlusions and utilizing Intravascular and optical coherence imaging in these devices. It also includes outcome research in some areas of structural heart disease interventions and carotid artery stenting.
