Emory's Structural Heart and Valve Disease Fellowship for interventional cardiologists is a highly specialized training opportunity for fellows who have completed general and interventional cardiology training. The program provides trainees with hands-on experience in a wide variety of non-coronary, transcatheter cardiac interventions. Our high-volume center allows fellows to gain proficiency in TAVR, while also developing skills as operators in advanced mitral, tricuspid, and pulmonic transcatheter valve repair and replacement procedures. Competencies are also gained in treating septal closures (ASD, PFO, VSD), paravalvular leak disorders, left atrial appendage occlusion, and other complex congenital interventions. The Structural IC fellow can expect to perform approximately 400 procedures over the course of the training year.
For more than a decade, the Emory Structural Heart and Valve Center has been a leader in the innovative treatment of patients with complex structural heart disease and remains one of the largest in the country. Our continued participation in clinical trials provides access to the latest therapeutic devices for all four heart valves and other structural heart defects. The center is routinely selected to show live cases for major academic conferences, with active fellow contribution. Our unique partnership with the NIH creates a one-of-a-kind experience for fellows to collaborate in the pioneering field of transcatheter electrosurgery and other novel techniques. Upon program completion, our fellows feel empowered to deliver the latest advances in structural heart disease therapy.
