Scientists at Emory University and Rutgers gain new insights into a genetic risk factor for schizophrenia
AUGUST 2023
A research collaboration between scientists at Emory University and Rutgers has discovered that the strongest known genetic risk factor for the development of schizophrenia can influence impaired mitochondrial function in brain cells. Such observations can assist researchers in gaining a better understanding of schizophrenia's polygenic complexity and neurobiology. The Emory News Center's coverage of the project can be found here.
The results of the study were published in Science Advances.
At Emory, the collaboration included the laboratories of co-senior author Gary Bassell, PhD, Department of Cell Biology; Steven Sloan, PhD, Department of Human Genetics; and Victor Faundez MD, PhD, Department of Cell Biology.
