Every baby should be screened between 24 hours and 7 days of age.

About our Program

The Emory Newborn Screening Program, in partnership with the Georgia Department of Human Resources, strives to ensure that every baby in Georgia receives the benefit of early diagnosis and treatment for the conditions detectable on the state metabolic newborn screen.

Newborn metabolic screening involves the collection of a few drops of blood in order to screen for various treatable conditions.

  • Short-term follow-up after a baby is found to have a positive screening result
  • Laboratory testing to confirm or rule out a diagnosis
  • Clinical care after diagnosis of a metabolic disorder

EGL Genetics Laboratory

Our partnering genetics laboratory provides clinical testing, interpretation, and research for rare genetic diseases. They work with clients across the globe to help improve patient diagnosis.
