In recognition of Researcher Appreciation Day, the Recognitions Committee at Emory School of Medicine sent out a call for nominations for researchers across the school who are making a difference in their field. Emory researchers were nominated by their peers and colleagues for their groundbreaking research, development of new technologies, and continued pursuit of novel and innovative ideas.
Congratulations to our Emory Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics featured researchers.
Research Focus: Reproductive Infectious Diseases and Family Planning
Dr. Haddad's research is collaboratively bringing together top researchers in OB/GYN, nursing, public health, HIV, Yerkes, etc to use multiple avenues of research funding and support, career enhancement, and collaboration to address the larger scientific challenge of advancing considerations of sex as a biological variable across ALL fields of biomedical research at Emory.
Research Focus: Improving the Quality of Women's Health through Technology
Dr. Kelley is collaborating with cardiac electrophysicists to develop catheters to measure and pace bladder activity under cytoscopic guidance. He uses MRI dynamic imaging to study fluid dynamics in the bladder. He is using this science to help women maintain higher quality of life in their 60s, 70s, 80s, even 90s.
Research Focus: Stress and Women’s Health
Dr. Smith's research directly explores the genetic and epigenetic correlates of human behavior, particularly related to the role of prenatal and early life influences on the development of stress-related diseases in adulthood. Her developing research program focuses on the detection, evaluation, and analysis of polymorphisms, epigenetic changes and gene expression as they associate with psychiatric, behavioral and neuroendocrine phenotypes. Her body of work is significant (h-index=34). However, her greatest impact is developing a robust department research infrastructure. She works to advocate for and promote scientific inquiry and academic scholarship to personally mentor, motivate and support the next generation to pursue
