Improving Access to Primary Care in Georgia
Accepting the Award
Once a scholar is notified of their selection, we ask that they accept the award, or notify us of non-acceptance, in a timely fashion. For a majority of scholars, this is within a few weeks of selection notification. If individual circumstances make this challenging, please notify the program as soon as possible.
In order to disburse the award to scholars, the program will request financial information using a Qualtrics form. The type of information requested will depend on the category of the applicant: student, employee, or unaffiliated individual.

Fulfilling the Service Requirement
Number of awards determines the duration of a scholar's service obligation. Scholars are required to fulfill the service obligation as outlined in their award acceptance letter.
Engaging with the Community
Periodically, scholars should expect requests for RSVPs to community events. While scholars are not required to attend any events, we do ask for prompt responses to RSVP requests. If you know that you will not be able to attend any Atlanta or Georgia based events, please let us know and we will cease requesting responses.
Participation in program mentorship is required for all scholars until the service obligation is complete. Scholars are paired to mentors who are Emory-affiliated pracitioners. Mentees select several mentors from a list; based on availability and mutual interest, a mentee is paired with one of their selected mentors. Any scholar who has completed residency can volunteer to mentor other scholars while being mentored themselves. If it has been more than five years since a scholar completed residency, they can be a mentor and opt out of being mentored.
Understanding the Award's Tax Implications
Some scholars may find they have a larger income tax obligation due to their award. We strongly encourage scholars to find a trustworthy tax professional before tax filing season. Program administrators will make every effort to accurately answer scholars' questions, however, any information provided by program administrators cannot be interpreted as professional tax advice.
During tax filing season, scholars should expect communication from Emory regarding tax documents. Please ensure the communication methods you provide us are accurate and remain accurate.
