Mentors
Each trainee is mentored by a dual team of experienced Nigerian and funded U.S. based mentors. To capitalized on the academic expertise of the program faculty, mentored research projects focus on three main domains of HIV/women’s health research: a) HIV prevention and reproductive health; b) challenges in HIV therapeutics unique to women; and c) complications of chronic HIV infection relevant to women. The mentors work directly with the Fogarty fellows providing direct mentorship, guidance, and supervision. Our structured mentoring program has the long-term goals of: increasing the critical mass of qualified mentors; improving the rigor of mentorship in Nigeria; and expanding in-country research capacity in HIV/women’s health research.
