Why Emory EM?
For me it was an easy decision. I knew I wanted to belong to a program that had a strong history in emphasizing what it means to advocate and care for underserved/diverse patients and Emory is exactly that. Atlanta being an incredibly fun city with so many things to do was just the icing on top!
Interests within EM?
Emergency medicine is a field that interfaces with some of the most at risk and marginalized communities in our populations. Often times these individuals have a complicated history with structures of power and thus can have a complicated experience with healthcare. Often times EM physicians may be the first and/or only physician many from this population interact with. For this reason, EM docs have the unique position of setting the stage for one's interaction with healthcare, and I found this to be exactly the role I wanted to play. Not only do we provide humanizing care, but we value the social issues just as heavily as the medical issues.
5-year plan
Over the course of the next 5 years, my plan is simple: place myself in position to become the most competent/compassionate physician I can be.
What would you be doing if you weren't in Emergency Medicine?
If not an EM physician I would more than likely be a professor or an artist (maybe both). I think that would fill my deep passion for learning and mentorship, but also help me scratch that creative itch that I can't seem to get rid of.
Fun Fact
I was in a commercial for the Columbus Blue Jackets hockey team as a kid, but I have never played hockey a day in my life.
What would your superpower be?
My super power, would definitely be time control. Some moments you wish could last forever...while some need to hurry up.
