Pediatric Anesthesiology
Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston is both a primary and tertiary pediatric care facility with one of the highest acuity patient populations in the United States. Given its status as a referral center for all of the Southeast United States with a massive catchment area, residents see a large volume of cases during their training. All residents typically rotate through CHOA at least three times during the course of their residency gaining fantastic exposure to a wide breadth of clinical cases from short mask cases to liver transplants. Residents become quickly adept at weight-based calculations and learn to choose appropriate endotracheal tubes based on age and weight. Pediatric attendings are passionate about teaching and have developed an online curriculum for residents to complete while on rotation. Due to the pace and volume of cases at CHOA, ACGME-required number of pediatric cases are easily surpassed.
