Resident Perspective
All residents will rotate through the pre-op clinic and PACU at Emory University Hospital during their residency. The pre-op clinic rotation is a chance for the anesthesia resident to become a more well-rounded perioperative physician. All outpatients are seen in our clinic to review their medical history, make perioperative medication adjustments, and assess their medical readiness for surgery. We also make brief rounds on a few of the post-op patients who require follow-up after their surgery from the previous day. Residents will become well-versed in how best to optimize patients prior to surgery. In addition to pre-op clinic, residents will rotate through the PACU where high-acuity patients are recovering following their surgeries. Residents will become experienced in rapidly stabilizing decompensating patients and evaluating the patient prior to discharge from the PACU.
