Anesthesiology is among the most varied, challenging, and rewarding of the medical specialties. Initially focused upon "giving anesthesia," anesthesiologists are active in all aspects of patient care. The practice of Anesthesiology is, in reality, the practice of acute perioperative medicine with the understanding that anesthesiologists perform important procedures, convert monitoring data to patient care and recognize the subtle relationships between drug action and patient pathophysiology. In order to provide the best clinical experience, residents rotate through a variety of anesthesiology-related subspecialties. All rotations maybe selected for again during the PGY-4 year providing a personalized senior schedule, giving flexibility in each resident's experience.
