Application information: 2020-21
Application information: 2021-2022
Application for the Emory Anesthesiology Residency Program is available through the Electronic Residency Application System (ERAS).
For the 2022 application cycle, we are recruiting 8 categorical (four year) spots and 4 advanced (three year) spots linked to Emory’s Transitional Year PGY-1 program.
Residency spots are available through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).
As part of our efforts to increase the fairness and objectivity of our selection process – and to give you more opportunities to showcase your unique qualities – we now request (not require) applicants to complete the Altus Suite.
Please note that this is not a mandatory requirement.
A complete application includes:
- Personal Statement
- Three letters of recommendation*
- Dean’s Letter
- Medical school transcripts
- USMLE Step 1 Score
*We recognize that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, not every applicant will have the opportunity to do a formal anesthesiology rotation or obtain a letter of recommendation from an anesthesiologist.
USMLE
We welcome Osteopathic applicants, but we do require that applicants have taken the USMLE. We will only consider applicants who passed the USMLE Step 1 on the first attempt. The low end of successful applicants to our program is a Step I score of 230.
We expect residents to complete Step 3 in the PGY-1 year (though exceptions will be made during the pandemic).
Deadline
The deadline for applications is December 15th.
International Graduates
We welcome applications from exceptionally qualified International Medical Graduates. International graduates must submit a copy of their ECFMG Standard Certificate. In addition to being certified by the ECFMG, international graduates must also be sponsored by the ECFMG. If you are accepted as a resident, the Dean's office will send you the materials you will need to be sponsored by the ECFMG and receive your J-1 visa. We do not support H-1 visas.
We require a medical degree or post-graduate training from a United States-accredited program. We accept applications only through ERAS.
Interview Day Details
All interviews this season will be conducted by video, including those for local applicants. Applicants invited to interview will be given access to an applicant website with an overview of the program and videos from our program leaders, residents and alumni. As the only anesthesiology training program in metropolitan Atlanta, we have no competition for cases and rotate to five different hospitals to maximize the residents’ depth and breadth of clinical training.
Video interviews will consist of one session with the Program Director and one session with an Associate Program Director. In lieu of dinner with the residents this year, applicants will schedule informal sessions with a Chief resident and other residents in the program.
We will schedule using Thalamus.
