Application Requirements
Applicants to the Advanced Robotic Cardiac Surgery Fellowship of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Emory University School of Medicine, must have successfully completed an ACGME-accredited cardiothoracic surgery residency program, and be eligible for board certification by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.
Objectives
The goal of the fellowship is to provide specialized training in robot assisted mitral, intra-cardiac, and coronary adult cardiac surgery that goes beyond cardiothoracic surgery residency training. The robotic fellow will work under the direction of Douglas A. Murphy, MD, medical director of the Emory Robotic Center, and function at Emory Saint Joseph's Hospital. In addition, the fellow will obtain full privileges across the Emory system of hospitals that perform cardiac surgery.
Position Details
The robotic fellow will receive advanced training in and be responsible for the following knowledge areas and skills sets, including, but not limited to:

Treatment of all robotic cardiac surgery, including intra-cardiac and coronary bypass;

Preoperative evaluation, operative management, and postoperative patient care of complex adult surgical conditions, including major mitral surgery and complex/high risk intra-cardiac surgery;

Serve as co-surgeon on robotic procedures under the direction of the medical director and other cardiothoracic surgeons;

Train other cardiothoracic surgery residents and/or fellows in the diagnosis and treatment of complex mitral disease;

Interpretation and assessment of diagnostic imaging studies;

Participation in both emergent and elective mitral robotic intra-cardiac procedures;

Additional education and scholarly pursuits as determined by the medical director to support the mission of the Emory Robotic Center.
