Description
The Distinguished Adjunct Faculty Member Award recognizes an adjunct faculty member associated with the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences who has demonstrated excellence in supervision, teaching, mentoring, and/or collaboration with trainees in activities related to service, scholarship, and/or education and/or excellence with regard to their professional service and leadership as related to the department.
Eligibility
Adjunct faculty members at any rank who devote at least 26 hours/year to (1) supervising, teaching, mentoring, and/or collaborating with residents, fellows, psychology trainees, medical students, graduate students, allied health professionals, undergraduates, and/or candidates enrolled in the Psychoanalytic Institute related to service (patient care, community engagement), scholarship, and/or education; and/or (2) engaging in professional services and leadership related to one or more components of the department by (a) serving on a departmental or institutional committee; (b) developing and/or implementing a program for the department; and/or (c) serving on a committee at the local, national or international level are eligible for the Distinguished Adjunct Faculty Member Award. Adjunct faculty members who have received this award within the previous 5 years are ineligible.
Nominations
Nominees must be nominated by a full-time or part-time faculty member, another adjunct faculty member, a Medical/Clinical Director or Division Chief, or a trainee/group of trainees. A concise, < 2000-word narrative describing the outstanding contributions made by the nominee should accompany the nomination. Additional letters (one page maximum per letter) are welcome. These documents should describe the nominee’s impact on the trainee(s) in the department and/or the nominee’s involvement in professional service or leadership in the department, locally, nationally, or internationally.
Submissions
Submissions must be sent via e-mail to Nadine Kaslow, PhD, ABPP, Vice Chair for Faculty Development. Submissions should include the nominating letter and name and contact information of the faculty member being nominated (Word or PDF) and additional letters of support if applicable.
Decisions
Decisions will be made by a committee comprised of the Vice Chair for Faculty Development and members of the Adjunct Faculty Workgroup. The Chair of the Department will serve as an ex-officio member of the committee and will have input without a vote. The voting will be done via email. Members of the committee will recuse themselves if they are nominated for a particular award.
