Dear Residency Applicant:
Thank you for your interest in the Emory Pediatrics Residency Training Program. Our program has a long history of attracting exceptional students, and they become fantastic residents over the three years of their training. One of the greatest rewards of my job is to watch them develop clinically and personally into fine pediatricians. The Program works diligently to provide varied experiences that will help each trainee find their career destination in Pediatrics.
The clinical experiences have the richness of occurring in three different children’s hospitals and a large county hospital. The patients and their diagnoses are plentiful and diverse. Clinical activities are supported with a backbone of structured curriculum and conferences. There is a large clinical faculty, including a committed group of primary care physicians, hospitalists, and urgent care physicians working as general pediatricians, as well as a cadre of subspecialists in virtually every discipline.
As part of an academic health center that includes research that is on “the penetrating point of the cutting edge”, residents are encouraged to participate in scholarly activities during training. The Rollins School of Public Health and the Global Health Institute at Emory, as well as the Centers for Disease Control provide opportunities for residents to expand and enhance their areas of inquiry.
Our residency is large enough to have amazing research and clinical experiences, but small enough that the residents and program administration know each other very well and work together as a team. The Program seeks input from residents in various ways and is committed to structure the rotations and time residents spend at work in a way that allows for ample time for residents to pursue exercise, hobbies, and leisure activities that allow for residents to stay energized and enthusiastic.
The Emory Pediatrics Residency Program prepares residents for their chosen career path in either general or subspecialty pediatrics by tailoring the six months of Individualized Curriculum for the resident’s career destination. The resident works closely with their faculty advisor in this process. The varied career choices are easily supported by a variety of established or created experiences.
In a recent survey of our residents who completed the training program, 100% said they would recommend this training program to students interested in Pediatrics.
I look forward to receiving your application to the Emory Pediatrics Residency Training Program!
Sincerely,
Susie Buchter, MD
