Description
This 1-year ACGME-accredited program offers an in depth-training in gynecological surgical pathology. The program combines advanced training in diagnostic gynecologic pathology with clinical research and teaching. Training sites include Emory University Hospital and Grady Memorial Hospital. Clinical responsibilities are dedicated to sign-out of in-house material and evaluation of consultation cases. The fellows are encouraged to be engaged in basic and translational research activities, including clinicopathologic and immunohistochemical studies. Presentation of cases at a variety of clinicopathological conferences such as gynecologic oncology tumor boards, colposcopy conferences, and reproductive endocrinology and infertility sessions offer opportunities for teaching and collaboration with clinical colleagues.
Two months elective rotations (one month at each site) offers additional training in related fields including placental pathology and gynecologic cytology and clinical observership in gynecologic oncology (surgery, outpatient clinical and radiation oncology).
In the two training sites combined, the accession is over 10,000 gynecological surgical specimens, over 20,000 gynecological cytology cases, close to 2500 placentas and 225 gynecologic pathology consultation cases annually. Fellowship specific intraoperative consultation cases are approximately 150 cases annually at each site. This wide variety and complexity of gynecologic pathology cases provide an excellent source for fellow education and clinical research activities.
The core faculty includes four pathologists, each with more than ten years of sign out experience with a special focus on gynecologic pathology or fellowship training in gynecologic pathology.
