Fellowship Goals
- Establish and maintain an environment of inquiry and scholarship
- Demonstrate commitment to the delivery of safe, quality, cost effective, patient-centered care
- Develop an extensive knowledge base of rheumatic disease
- Develop exemplary clinical history taking and physical examination of patients with rheumatic disease and mimics
- Become proficient in all diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in rheumatology
- Develop skills for analysis and integration of current research findings into clinical care

Clinical Training
Rheumatology fellows rotate through four clinical sites:
- Emory University Hospital/The Emory Clinic
- Emory University Midtown Hospital
- Grady Memorial Hospital
- Atlanta VA Medical Center
Research Opportunities
Research is an important component of the Emory Rheumatology Fellowship. The division provides fellows the opportunity to pursue basic, clinical, translational, and quality improvement research projects during the two-year program, and assists fellows in identifying a research mentor early.

Conferences
Historically, Wednesday mornings have been reserved for the fellows’ conferences and didactics.
Summer Core Lecture Series
At the beginning of the academic year, our faculty present lectures covering physical exam skills, joint aspiration, laboratory evaluation, medications used in rheumatology and common rheumatic diseases.
Journal Club
Journal Club occurs monthly, focusing on pivotal papers in the field of rheumatology. Fellows are provided the opportunity to learn the basics of critical appraisal of the literature.
Grand Rounds
Grand Rounds occur weekly and are comprised of: Case Conferences/M&M, Research Conferences, Invited Guest Speakers, and Multi-disciplinary Conferences.
Fellows Didactics
Fellows are also exposed to the following didactic sessions: Rheumatology Textbook Chapter Review, Scientific Basis of Rheumatic Disease, Clinical Rheumatology Conference, Monthly Radiology Conference, Rehabilitation Conference, Clinical Trial Design, Pathology Conference and Board Review.
