Dr. Azuka Patrick Okwuraiwe is a Biochemist by training and a Virologist by practice. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Ibadan in 2001, Masters in 2005, and Ph.D. in 2018 from the University of Lagos. His Ph.D. focused on HIV and hepatitis C co-infection. He currently works as a Research Fellow at the Centre for Human Virology and Genomics, Nigerian Institute of Medical Research. Azuka has conducted hands-on assays on HIV viral load and early infant diagnosis of HIV, hepatitis B, and C, amongst other viruses, on the molecular diagnostics bench for 15 years and is also a trained quality management system auditor. To his credit, he has 34 peer-reviewed publications in both local and international journals. After partaking in several different research areas (tuberculosis, Lassa fever, human papillomavirus, SARS-CoV-2), this infectious diseases researcher is currently carving a niche in hepatology, hepatitis and immune evasion.
