Ifeoma Idigbe is a Research Fellow (Medical Sociologist/Clinical Counselor) and the current head of the HIV Testing Services/Counselling Unit, Clinical Sciences Department at the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR), Lagos. She is an alumna of Queen’s College, Lagos, Covenant University, Nigeria and University of Worcester, United Kingdom. She is the Lead, Social &Behavioural Sciences Research Sub-group and has over thirteen years experience working within and outside the country in conducting qualitative research, counselling, community engagement, training and monitoring Research Ethics procedures. She is a reviewer and a member of the Ethics Committee at NIMR. Ifeoma has served/currently serving as an in-country research Coordinator/Testing Arm Lead on several grants from the Harvard School of Public Health and Vanderbilt University, SLU Missouri, NYU and North Western University, Chicago. She is a Trainer of Trainers (TOT)/Lead Facilitator and serves as a consultant with Organizations and private practices to train health workers in the country as well as develop protocols for research and implementation. She is the founder, Chicks-In- Research Club, a certified Mediator at the Lagos Multi-door Courthouse and an International Online Mediator (ADR Point, Europe).
She is a recipient of the Director-General’s Young Scientist/Researcher Award. She has presented at National and International Conferences, has won several awards and has over 25 publications. Her research interest is in Infectious Diseases (HIV/TB), NCDs, Geriatrics and Adolescent/Women’s Health. She is currently an ENRTP Trainee. Enrolling in the EN-RTP Programme has improved her research capacities and skills by preparing her for more extensive applied and implementation research. Also, it has developed her skills in research methodologies and helped in aligning her pathway towards providing quality of care, assisting and engaging in research at the National and International level. She communicates in English, Igbo and French. Her hobbies are reading, playing chess and swimming.
