Transplant Infectious Diseases
Fellows with a specific interest in Transplant ID may elect to pursue the “Transplant ID Track” starting in Year 2. The goals of this track are to provide fellows with a focused clinical and research experience in the field of transplant infectious diseases. Clinical experiences include: additional time on the inpatient Transplant ID consult service, rounding with the solid organ and bone marrow transplant inpatient teams, and weekly Transplant ID clinic. Fellows in the track will be paired with a faculty mentor whose research portfolio focuses on immunocompromised patients and encouraged to attend regional or national meetings in the field of Transplant ID (for example the American Transplant Congress annual meeting).
Hospital Epidemiology and Antimicrobial Stewardship
Fellows interested in a career in Hospital Epidemiology and/or Antimicrobial Stewardship may elect to pursue this track starting in Year 2. The goals of this track are to provide fellows with focused experiences in hospital epidemiology and antimicrobial stewardship. The track will be tailored to the fellow’s specific interests, but potential experiences may include (but are not limited to): completion of the IDSA Advanced Antimicrobial Stewardship Curriculum, participation in the investigation of a nosocomial outbreak/case cluster and/or root cause analysis of a hospital-acquired infection, participation in pharmacy and therapeutics (P&T) meetings and decisions, development of formulary revisions/updates, and participation in audit and feedback/antibiotic utilization consultation. Fellows in the track will be paired with faculty mentors in hospital epidemiology/antimicrobial stewardship roles for their research projects, and will be encouraged to attend regional or national meetings relevant to the field (for example the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America annual meeting).
HIV/AIDS
Fellows interested in a career in HIV/AIDS may elect to pursue this track starting in Year 2. The goals of this track are to provide fellows with focused experiences in HIV/AIDS clinical care, HIV prevention, and HIV research (basic science, clinical/translational, or implementation). The track will be tailored to the fellow’s specific interests but potential experiences may include (but are not limited to): a focused HIV/AIDS outpatient clinical experience, experience with PrEP, participation in evaluation of care continua, participation in community meetings focused on Ending the HIV Epidemic, and participation in a research project. Fellows in this track will be encouraged to attend national and international meetings relevant to the field (for example the Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections, Research for Prevention (R4P), the International AIDS Society and others).
