Family Medicine Residency Program

Emory University is one of the top academic healthcare institutions in the US. Our medical school routinely ranks among the top 25% in the United States, and our healthcare system includes nearly 2,000 physicians and 11 hospitals. Our program delivers the best of both worlds, training in a community-based clinic and hospital setting while having expert consultations at your fingertips.

Flexibility to design your own training is a fundamental benefit of our program. In addition to our dynamic curriculum, you’ll have the opportunity to choose five electives from over 100 specialties. You can tailor your training to meet your career goals. We have a strong Global Health Program in partnership with the Rollins School of Public Health. We use a night float system that provides work-life balance and allows residents to engage in moonlighting and community service. Our training will prepare you for any career path you choose. Our graduates obtain fellowships (100% placement rate), start their own practices, join group practices, work for the VA, join the CDC, practice hospital medicine, work in urgent care facilities, and become academic clinicians.  

We achieve diversity every day. You’ll work with a diverse group of patients, residents, and faculty in a variety of settings. Our patient population includes urban underserved, suburban and rural, international refugees, farmworkers, and veterans. Your colleagues will be residents and faculty from all over the world. Our training sites include Grady Memorial Hospital (inner-city public hospital), The Grady Neighborhood Health Clinics, the Emory Clinic, Emory University Hospital Midtown (community-based acute care university hospital), Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, and the Atlanta VA Medical Center.

Our residents and faculty are supported in scholarship. All of our residents complete a research project and a quality improvement project; in addition, they receive CME funds and leave to participate in medical conferences. Our ITE and board scores are consistently higher than the national average. Emory currently offers fellowships for Geriatrics, Palliative Care, and Sports Medicine (in partnership with Orthopedics).
