Welcome from Program Director, Jose Villalon-Gomez, MD, MPH

Welcome to the Emory Family Medicine Residency Program!

Emory University is one of the top academic healthcare institutions in the US. Our medical school routinely ranks among the top 25% in the United States, and our healthcare system includes nearly 2,000 physicians and 11 hospitals.

Our program delivers the best of both worlds, training in a community-based clinic and hospital setting while having expert consultations at your fingertips.

Program Information

Residents, faculty, and staff serve the urban and suburban populations of metro-Atlanta. Each year, our program accepts 10 PGY-1/incoming residents. Our sponsoring hospital is Emory University Hospital Midtown.

Our primary training site is the Emory Family Medicine Clinic in Dunwoody, GA. The Clinic was awarded PCMH Level III recognition by the National Commission on Quality Assurance.

Residents complete their continuity clinics, didactics, and procedure clinics at the Dunwoody clinic but also rotate out through the community and surrounding medical centers to achieve their training.

Culture

What sets the program apart, though, is the culture. We foster personal, academic, and professional growth in all our residents by making time for bonding outside of regular duties. A few of our group activities include

  • Annual retreat
  • Holiday parties
  • Trips to the performing arts or sporting events
  • Access to Atlanta’s top attractions

Many of our residents join us from different cities, states, and countries, so we make sure to introduce them to all that Atlanta has to offer while providing them a professional and personal support system.

The LaHouse Residency Fund

The LaHouse Residency Fund fund supports one three-year trainee in family medicine. Family medicine physicians are needed to ensure that all Georgians have affordable access to primary care that is patient-centered and focused on preventing disease.
