Welcome from Program Director
Welcome to the Hospice & Palliative Medicine Fellowship at Emory University School of Medicine. Our ACGME-accredited Fellowship is housed within the Department of Medicine and the Division of General Medicine and Geriatrics.
The goal of the fellowship is to train physicians who will be leaders in Palliative Medicine clinical care, research, and education. The fellowship was started in 2010 by Dr. Tammie Quest, a national leader in palliative care education and research. Since that time, we have maintained continuous accreditation and have trained over 25 physicians in the practices and precepts of this critical field.
Our fellows have come from varied primary specialties, including internal medicine, family medicine, and emergency medicine. We have trained physicians who have continued their training straight out of residency, those who have completed other fellowships and are seeking additional fellowship training in palliative medicine, and those who have been out in practice for anywhere from 1 year to 30 years and have decided to return to fellowship training to pursue a new professional focus in palliative medicine.
In 2014, we launched a pediatric track as part of the fellowship. Adult and pediatric fellows train side-by-side in our program, although the amount of clinical exposure to adults and children varies depending on the track of the learners.
Over the course of the one-year training program, our fellows become expert palliative medicine physicians by participating in our curriculum involving clinical care at multiple sites involving varied patient populations, didactic and experiential learning led by our more than 25 palliative medicine physician faculty and many other interdisciplinary team members, and learner-centered year-long mentorship from the fellowship program leadership and faculty.
Thank you for taking the time to visit us today. We encourage you to learn more about us and envision how fellowship training at Emory might be the perfect fit for your next educational experience.
