Didactics
The Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship has weekly didactics as part of our Academic Half-Day on Tuesdays from 8 to 11 a.m. These sessions are taught by our Palliative Medicine faculty of all disciplines as well as guest speakers with subject matter experts within and outside of the Emory community.
Our didactics are dedicated to the core curriculum in Hospice and Palliative Medicine, as outlined by the Hospice and Palliative Medicine Core Competencies. A longitudinal communication curriculum across the course of the year is included as well as a day-long communication skills course "powered by VitalTalk" with our own VitalTalk-trained Emory faculty members.
Fact, Fiction or Fellowship
Fact, Fiction, and Fellowship (F3) is the Palliative Care Center's interactive journal club. Throughout the year, our Faculty and APPs team with outside faculty to present and discuss relevant and evolving clinical issues related to palliative care in an intimate setting, often with food and drink. F3 provides a relaxed environment in which fellows can critically engage with leaders in the field to discuss the evolving issues surrounding Palliative Medicine and how to best understand and adapt to them.
Research and Scholarship Opportunities
Hospice and Palliative Medicine fellows are encouraged and supported to examine original questions with respect to clinical care, education, quality, and policy to advance the field of hospice and palliative medicine. All fellows attend the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine Annual Meeting and are required to submit an abstract during the call for case presentations (occurs annually in October). In each of the previous four years, one or more fellows has had his or her abstract chosen for either an oral or poster presentation at the Annual Meeting.
