Step 1

Eligibility & Statement of Interest

The first step to becoming an Amos Scholar is filling out the Eligibility and Statement of Interest form. During the cycle*, use the link below to start the process by submitting the E&SI form.

Start the Process

After submitting the E&SI form, you will be contacted via email about your eligibility within 48 hours. If eligible, you will be provided with a link to the full application form.

*Outside of the cycle, the same link can be used to be signed up for notification. View the Application page for details about cycle start and end.



Step 2

Application Form

Please refer to the email received after Step 1; it should provide a link to the application, if you are eligible. If you cannot find the link, check your spam/junk folder and reach out to primarycare@emory.edu.

Essay Coaching from Michelle Hiskey

Michelle Hiskey is an essay coach who has helped graduate, undergraduate, and high school students earn acceptance to top programs in Georgia and across the country, including Penn, Johns Hopkins, Northwestern, Brown, Vanderbilt, Rice, Washington University St. Louis, UCLA, and Emory.

Ms. Hiskey is a former AJC journalist who attended Duke University with scholarship help and graduated debt-free with a magna cum laude degree in English/creative writing.

Essay Coaching from Dr. Jones

Frank Jones, MD, FACS, MPH is a trauma surgeon and adjunct professor of surgery at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is also the founder and President of Pre-Med Solutions, a comprehensive mentoring and advising service for underrepresented minority pre-med students.

Dr. Jones has led many coaching sessions on writing personal statements for students applying for medical school and residency programs.

Step 3

Interviews

Invitations to interviews will be sent via email a few days after the application deadline passes. Interviews will take place over a two week time period starting two weeks after the application deadline. Each interview session will take place via virtual conferencing on a weekday starting at 6pm (ET) and ending by 7:15pm (ET).

Breakout rooms assigned, applicant will be interviewed for 15 min by an Emory-affiliated physician or administrator.

Applicant is asked to return to main room. 5 min provided to turn off camera/mic and use as needed.

One-on-One #2 

Breakout rooms reassigned, applicant will be interviewed by another Emory-affiliated physician or administrator. 

6:40p

Applicant is asked to return to main room. 5 min provided to turn off camera/mic and use as needed. 

6:45p 

One-on-One #3 

Breakout rooms reassigned, applicant will be interviewed by another Emory-affiliated physician or administrator. 

7:00p 

Closing Remarks 

All are invited back to the main room. Host will thank everyone and provide details about rest of application process.

Step 4

Selection Notification

Decisions will be made by a selection committee comprising Emory-affiliated physicians, advanced practitioners, or administrators. Each discipline (IM, FM, Geri, Peds) will be represented.

Decisions will be announced via email six to eight weeks after the application deadline. If you have any questions during this process, please reach out to primarycare@emory.edu



Being Selected

If you are selected to be an Amos Scholar, be prepared to respond to all emails and submit all relevant forms within a week of receiving them. Ensure that pc.consortium@emory.edu is recognized as a contact for your email mailbox. In addition, look for emails from Qualtrics.

Medical Students

Medical students who wish to have their award applied to their current academic year should apply in the fall. If selected, please accept and provide disbursement details by December 1st.
