Welcome from the Executive Associate Dean
Greetings from Emory at Grady, where we strive to attract a diverse and dedicated faculty committed to delivering quality health care for the community served by Grady, preparing learners for the future in which they will serve and lead and conducting high-impact scholarship that addresses unmet patient or societal needs.
Grady Hospital opened its doors in 1892 and was located near Atlanta Medical College, which supervised patient care. When Emory University was established in 1915, Atlanta Medical College became the Emory University School of Medicine. The school aimed to train doctors at Grady and help with the hospital’s growing patient base. Today, more than 1,500 Emory faculty, residents, students and staff members are on the Grady campus each day.
Grady is one of the nation’s largest public health systems. The hospital is known for its trauma and emergency services—it is the region’s only level I trauma center and Atlanta’s 911 ambulance service. Grady is also home to the Georgia Poison Center, one of the largest burn units in the U.S., the certified comprehensive Marcus Stroke Center, a nationally recognized infectious disease program and a Georgia Cancer Center for Excellence.
Grady Memorial Hospital is staffed primarily by doctors from Emory and Morehouse Schools of Medicine, and because of these partnerships, it is estimated that 25 percent of all doctors practicing medicine in Georgia receive at least a portion of their training at Grady. Alongside high-quality clinical care and superb educational activities, we are proud of our continued commitment to research, particularly as it aids the populations we serve.
Thanks to the partnership between Emory, Grady and Morehouse, we maintain a strong commitment to the health care needs of Fulton and DeKalb Counties and are able to offer a full range of specialized, world-class medical services for the entire community.
