Education

Welcome to Emory medical education at Grady! On behalf of our team, we're excited for you to join us at the premier teaching hospital in the country.

There are currently over 1,400 Graduate Medical Education trainees at Emory University School of Medicine, and about 80% of those will rotate at Grady during the academic year. We have more than 350 Emory residents at Grady Hospital daily, representing approximately 50 training programs. Grady is also particularly important for our medical students during their clinical rotations, with 50-75 rotating at any given time. Emory partners closely with the Morehouse School of Medicine, which also uses Grady as a training site. We also sponsor visiting residents nationwide, particularly in partnership with our nation's military training centers.

Mission

The educational mission of Emory School of Medicine is to train physicians who will improve health care in Georgia, the U.S. and internationally by ensuring our learners develop into inquisitive, scientifically oriented, board-certified physicians and leaders. The Emory at Grady vision is to be a leader in innovative medical education practices by developing exemplary physician leaders of national prominence.

Events and Engagement

Emory at Grady hosts events throughout the year, many in conjunction with Grady Hospital and Morehouse School of Medicine. A welcome party hosted in the summer offers a chance for everyone to celebrate the beginning of the academic year. The Halloween party for residents and fellows celebrates spooky season in the Resident Resource Space in Grady Hospital, complete with a costume contest and prizes.

Thank a Resident Day

Thank a Resident or Fellow Day, a national day of recognition for trainees, is celebrated on the last Friday of February each year. Started in 2018 by the Gold Humanism Honor Society, this day lets us all show our appreciation for the contributions of residents and fellows to patient care and medical education at Emory and Grady.

National Doctors' Day

National Doctors' Day is an annual event on March 30th that honors the dedication, skill and commitment of physicians at Grady to provide high-quality care for patients. We celebrate with food, swag and more each year.

Resident Research Day at Grady

Grady Health System, in collaboration with the Morehouse School of Medicine and Emory University School of Medicine, hosts the Annual William E. Booth and James Zaidan Resident Research Day at Grady. This event promotes scholarly activity and engagement, strengthens graduate medical education, and advances research in the clinical sciences.

Amenities

The Grady resident resource space is located on the 16th floor of Grady with magnificent Atlanta views, the Resident Resource Space offers space for work or relaxing. The space offers a kitchen area with refrigerators and microwaves, lounge space, computer kiosks, small group meeting rooms, lactation rooms and lockers for personal storage.

The 16th-floor gym is just down the hall from the resident resource space. Residents have free access to the facilities, and showers are available.

Dining facilities include a 24-hour Starbucks on the hospital's ground floor and the Grady cafeteria on the first floor, which also offers Chick-fil-A during the week. A few blocks down the street, the Sweet Auburn Curb Market, founded in 1918 as an open-air market, has a variety of eateries and merchants.

Large and small reservable classroom space is available in the Emory buildings on Grady’s campus, including Glenn, Steiner, and the Emory Faculty Office Building. Classrooms and meeting rooms of all sizes can be reserved through 25Live at Emory.
