Attention Alumni: By Initiating Your Membership With a Donation, You Strengthen the Value of our Legacy
Department chair Dr. John Sweeney and other faculty leaders inaugurated the Galloway and McKinnon Alumni Society in 2021 to give those who have trained at the Emory Department of Surgery the opportunity to celebrate the institution that influenced their particular career paths and to honor those who guided them on the way.
Drs. John Galloway and William McKinnon made indelible impressions on the history of the department and the lives of its stakeholders, and are stellar exemplars of venerable alumni whose successes have contributed to Emory's heritage of service and excellence.
Both trained exclusively at Emory and joined the Department of Surgery upon graduating. Dr. McKinnon became a vascular surgeon at Emory University Hospital Midtown in 1980, and Dr. Galloway joined the Nutrition and Metabolic Support Service (NMSS) at Emory University Hospital in 1986. They then gave decades of diligence to generations of trainees, patients, colleagues, and their respective fields, taking what they learned as trainees to elevate Emory to even higher altitudes.
Dr. McKinnon retired in 2019, while Dr. Galloway is still clinically active as co-director of the NMSS, one of the most high-volume programs of its type in the country. In homage to what they achieved and gifted us in the process, and in recognition of many other Emory-nurtured luminaries too numerous to name here, the Department of Surgery is gratified to offer membership in the Galloway and McKinnon Alumni Society to any and all former trainees.
