A culture of giving helps set us apart

Giving is what physicians do every day. When they help someone go from unhealthy to thriving, the results carry beyond that one person. Good health benefits your family, co-workers, friends, and the world.

When you give to the Seavey Clinic, you’re part of that powerful ripple of altruism. You’re supporting teaching and research by an expert medical team. You’re helping a major academic medical center reach more patients with holistic, team-based care. You’re part of a legacy.

Thirty years ago, all this began with one grateful patient.

Jack Lupton, a Coke bottler whose philanthropy transformed downtown Chattanooga into a tourist destination, wanted a meaningful way to thank Dr. Paul Seavey for his excellent, personalized medical care. Mr. Lupton established the Seavey Endowment at the Emory School of Medicine.

An endowment provides a perpetual source of funding, and the Seavey Endowment incentivizes Emory’s top primary care doctors through special awards, research funds, opportunities for lifelong learning, and generous distinguished clinician awards.

Dr. Seavey (1926-2004) cared for the Rollins family, many of whom receive care at the Seavey Clinic today. The O. Wayne Rollins Fund for Clinical Excellence supports the Seavey Clinic’s faculty physicians, known as Rollins Distinguished Clinicians, and the Executive Health Discovery Database, which identifies and measures markers of health and disease and serves as a resource for research in general medicine, cardiology, radiology, kidney cancer, and more.

Other donors have made non-endowed gifts that are used for immediate needs. To learn more about philanthropy at the Seavey Clinic, please reach out to Ashley Michaud, Director of Development at 404.778.1250.
